Floating City In Rust

News

After the Naval Update, Rust introduced a new safe zone on the water - the Floating City. It’s located in the Deep Sea biome and acts as a trading hub. It’s relatively compact, but like other safe zones, it has everything you need. You can recycle resources, buy items, and prepare for your next runs without going back to the mainland. The monument is made up of several barges and connected platforms. One barge hosts weapon shops, another focuses on medical supplies, a third is used for farming, and the central area includes a casino, recycler, and other utilities.

Why this safe zone is useful

The main reason players visit the Floating City is convenience. It lets you handle multiple things that would normally require a trip back to base.

First, there’s resource recycling. The recycler allows you to break down components into scrap and other materials. This is especially important since your boat usually has limited storage, so turning junk into compact resources helps you carry more value.

Second, you can use repair benches and a research table. You can fix your gear and spend scrap to learn new items. Even if you die later, your blueprints stay with you, so it’s still worth it.

Third, vendors and shops offer useful items. Most players spend scrap here on medical supplies, ammo, food, or boat fuel.

The Floating City also works as a convenient break point between constant fights in Deep Sea.

Safe zone rules

The rules here are the same as in other safe zones like Outpost or Bandit Camp. PvP is completely disabled. Players can’t damage each other. Turrets are placed all around the area. If you try to shoot or break the rules, they will immediately open fire. There is also a hostile timer system. If you’ve recently been in combat or attacked someone near a safe zone, entering can be dangerous. Turrets will treat you as hostile and shoot on sight. Like all monuments and safe zones, building is not allowed. You can’t place anything at all - no sleeping bags, no workbenches, nothing.

What makes it different from other safe zones

Even though the rules are mostly the same, the Floating City has one key difference. You can grow crops here. On the Farm Barge, players can plant seeds and come back later to collect the harvest. This makes it unique, since neither Outpost nor Bandit Camp offer anything like this. For players who spend a lot of time in Deep Sea, it’s a convenient way to get food or resources without returning to land.

How to enter Deep Sea and reach the Floating City

Before you can find the Floating City, you need to enter Deep Sea. Access to Deep Sea opens at the edge of the map for a limited time - specifically, a 3-hour window. You sail to the border, enter a storm zone, and after crossing it, you load into the Deep Sea biome. To get there, the best option is a modular boat. It allows you to carry more fuel, resources, and teammates. You can learn more about modular boats in our article.

What gets in your way and how to reduce risk

The trip is rarely safe. Deep Sea is very active right now, and there are a lot of players in the area. On top of that, there are plenty of NPC patrol boats with updated AI that can easily ruin your run.

To reduce risk, follow a few simple rules. Always bring enough fuel and avoid stopping near Ghost Ships, since there’s almost always someone fighting there. It also helps to travel during low population hours when fewer players are online.

What’s inside

Besides the recycler, there are repair stations where you can fix armor, weapons, and tools. There’s also a refinery where you can process crude oil into low grade fuel for your boat. A research table is available as well, letting you unlock new items using scrap, which is especially useful early in progression.

As for vendors, there are plenty of them. You can buy a variety of items including medical supplies, food, weapons, and ammo. Some vendors also sell boats and boat modules, which is useful if you want to keep exploring but are missing something.

Sections

Each barge serves its own purpose and offers specific services.

Farm Barge

The Farm Barge is used for growing crops. You can plant whatever you want and come back later to collect it. There’s a small entry cost. Crops grow on a timer, so you’ll need to return after some time to harvest.

Food Barge

On the Food Barge you can buy... well, not rockets or C4, unfortunately. Nothing fancy here - just food for scrap if you run out, which is pretty common in Deep Sea. It’s better to bring enough with you so you don’t waste scrap on it.

Medical Barge

This barge sells medical supplies like syringes and medkits. Nothing special, but it can definitely save you in a pinch.

Supplies / Firearms / Boats

This sector focuses on weapons and gun-related gear, but you can also buy boats and related components here.

Deep Deck Casino

One of the more interesting areas is the casino. You come in with 1000 scrap and leave with nothing - or maybe you get lucky. It’s a gamble in every sense, and not always worth it, but still fun to try.

Conclusion

The Floating City is a unique ocean safe zone that provides everything you need for Deep Sea runs - just not for free. It’s extremely useful for players who spend most of their time in this biome. If you plan to actively explore the ocean, understanding how the Floating City works and what you can get there will help you move faster and use your resources more efficiently.
